Set in the grounds of Dartford Grammar School which was founded in 1576, the Mick Jagger Centre (MJC) is a live performance venue opened in 2000. Featuring multiple rooms including a theatre, music venue, studio, rehearsal rooms, meeting rooms and a bar, the venue has played host to events including live music, TV shows, theatre performances and dance events. Having opened in 2000 and seen significant upgrades over the last few years. In 2018 the technical management at the centre committed to upgrading their incandescent performance lighting stock to LED Lighting.
LED Lighting for Entertainment
Over the last few years there has been pressure across the entertainment industry to find more environmentally friendly and economical ways of operating. It has been clear that the move from incandescent light sources over to LED lighting sources is a move in this direction. Chauvet Professional have been a market leader in bringing LED lighting products to market. They have recently launched a stream of Theatrical products, encompassing some products from their existing range and new to market technology and designs. As a Chauvet Professional dealer and with their existing relationship with the MJC, ML Executives was ideally placed to meet their upgrade requirements.
The MJC technical team drew up a design in consultation with ML Executives, with the aim of replacing all of their main event space’s tungsten fixtures with Chauvet Professional LED lighting fixtures. Their existing stock included a selection of Selecon Pacific profiles, Selecon Acclaim & Strand Cantata Fresnels, JTE PAR64’s and Martin MAC250 moving lights. The brief was to install a standard house rig that could provide for the venue’s everyday needs. These range from live rock music through traditional theatre performances and dance shows through to school assemblies.
The chosen inventory included Chauvet Professionals:
- Ovation E-260WW LED profiles with 25° – 50° HD lenses
- Ovation F-95WW LED Fresnels
- COLORdash PAR HEX12 washes
- Rogue R1X moving head spots
- Rogue R1 moving head washes
- Rogue R2 moving head washes
The Ovation Range
The Ovation range from Chauvet Professional share a standardised LED chip set guaranteeing uniformity of colour output across the range. This range includes the E series of profiles with a range of lenses, the F series range for Fresnels, the C series of Cyc lights, the B series range of battens and the P series range of PAR replacements. With a variety of fixture varying in size and colour option, there is a fixture to suit most incandescent replacements and meet the needs of modern theatres. Most of the products within the family are available as either warm or cool white, variable white or full colour. Many of the F series products include motorized zoom and focus functions, making focussing much less time consuming. They also feature a local dimmer control allowing an operation to focus fixture without needing a desk operator present.
The COLORdash Range
The COLORdash family of products features a choice of three sizes of colour wash fixture and a range of chip options. These include the simple quad red/green/blue/amber and the flexible hex red/green/blue/amber/white+UV chips. This range is now also available in an IP rated version suitable for outdoor use.
The Rogue Range
The Rogue range of moving head fixtures provides a highly competitive and affordable family of luminaires. Rogue washes (available in three sizes) all use LED technology and include zoom functionality. The R1X and R2X also utilise LED chip sources and have fixed 16° beam angles.
